On February 6th, 2023 a catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria leaving communities in dire need of assistance. The web3 community quickly responded by spinning up campaigns to raise funds for the individuals and families affected by the disaster. Contributors from the Ethereum, Gnosis Chain, Cosmos, Polkadot, and Avalanche ecosystems all coordinated campaigns within hours of the earthquake. This is the true promise and unlock of web3; a coordination layer with massive and direct impact on improving the well-being of the world. In real-time, people from all over the world gathered online to pool resources on peer-to-peer networks without third party intermediaries thwarting the process. Let that sink in. Don't fall for the low-IQ take that Ethereum runs on AWS. The real concern is node concentration on Hetzner, especially for alt-L1s. Decentralization is key, let's make sure we spread out nodes to ensure a robust and secure network.
